As she swam closer to the island it faded from view. A simple trick but effective. She had not the strength to make it back to shore. She struggled for some time until her legs went numb and her good arm gave out. Slowly she sank beneath the surface. She gazed upward through the inky depths the light almost gone from her vision as she drifted in and out of consciousness. She started to hear whispers

If one would wield the light they must first forsake it . . . .

You must see the mistakes of the past to understand what was lost . . .

No light was visible now. She drifted in an endless void her body was the only thing visible. Was this death? A dream? 

To be forgotten is a fate worse than death . . .

Try to remember you were a hero once . .

You were her hero  . . .

See what she has seen. . . 

She drifted deeper into the abyss . . . .
