In Banner Saga you follow the paths of few characters and stories. Mainly Rook an aging father and his daughter Alette. Fleeing the overwhelming dredge that hound you until your final stand. The first time I played through it I did my best to make decisions that would keep Alette safe and out of most battles. Right at the very end of the game you have an option to let her take a final shot with a silver arrow to take down the final boss.
At first I was going to say no but she made a good case. She seemed sincere and there was no reason to doubt her. Plus she was the better shot so I budged just this once. It turns out that when she does the boss crushes the life out of her. Needless to say I was pretty upset. I had no way of knowing. I feel like I did my best to protect her and in the end I failed her. We did win the day barely but was it worth it?
After a long time I decided to play through it again. This time I(Rook) took the shot myself and sacrificed myself to save her. That is what I believe what every father should be willing to do for their child. It felt right. Now she can lead the saga onward and that is what Rook would have wanted.
In life you will have to make some hard choices and things won't always turn out like you expect them to. Sometimes you can't run from your problems instead you have to make a stand.
